The fires in the Amazon are an indicator of slash-and-burn logging and forests being cleared for agriculture and beef production. But things don’t have to be this way. In Guatemala’s magnificent Maya Biosphere Reserve (swipe to see the satellite map), fires in the dry season of 2017 were concentrated in the reserve’s core “protected zones” in the west and “buffer zones” along the reserve’s southern edge. However, you’ll see very few fires within the 11 forest concessions managed by communities (lime green on map). In these areas, the @rainforestalliance works with local communities to develop sustainable forestry enterprises. In fact, for the first time in nearly two decades, net forest *gain* was recently found in the Reserve, an area historically plagued by deforestation. The community members of the Petén have been able to improve their livelihoods while protecting the forest they call home. Proof that people who make their living from the forest have the strongest incentive to protect it. #RainforestAlliance #SalvemosPeten @acofop #Guatemala #MayaBiosphereReserve #ForestFires #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForAmazonia #FightDeforestation #FollowTheFrog : @sergioizquierdophoto

The lungs of the Earth are in flames. The Brazilian Amazon—home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species—has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year—a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil). Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January. The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. The Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do? As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest. Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors. Link in bio. Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers. Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains. Eliminate or reduce consumption of beef; cattle ranching is one of the primary drivers of Amazon deforestation. When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy. #RainforestAlliance #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForAmazonia #AmazonRainforest #ActOnClimate #ForestsResist #ClimateCrisis : @mohsinkazmitakespictures / Windy.com

I feel called to share a little more information and more photos because I am receiving so many questions and comments saying it’s politics or the politicians at fault or be safe out there and so on. Yes it is partly politicians and government but it is also a lack of education/awareness and a global issue that we are all a part of. What people are not realizing is that fires and deforestation is occurring on a daily basis in these regions (we know because we work there) but no one has payed attention to the changes because it’s out of sight, out of mind, until now of course. A big fire like this one in Brazil takes place and people think it’s a one time crazy occurrence but it’s not! It’s happening all the time. We have seen multiple big fires in The Peruvian Amazon where we work over the years and deforestation steadily eating into the land. The first pic is of a farmer burning till the edge of the forest (you can see that in the 2nd pic) and somehow he alone has to manage an entire fire that can get out of hand really quickly and turn into a forest fire. These farmers are not aware of the consequences and just want to earn a living so changes have to come from within the entire system of how countries run things, demand of certain products globally (which means all of us and what we buy) and ways to help these people find better methods of earning/farming that is less impactful.

6. Menurut laporan, meningkatnya kebakaran hutan disebabkan karena kebijakan lingkungan Presiden Bolsonaro.

7. Kebakaran ini dapat mempengaruhi kehidupan manusia, karena Amazon menyimpan karbon yang penting dan mencegah pemanasan global.

8. Tak main-main, satwa yang tak berhasil menyelamatkan diri hangus terbakar api.

9. Kebakaran dahsyat di Amazon mulai menyita perhatian dunia.

10. Semoga kebakaran Amazon bisa segera ditangani secepatnya.
